Sometimes the opportunity we expect never appears.
Sometimes life changes the script.
But if our hearts remain open, kindness has a remarkable way of finding another path.
That's exactly what happened to Anthony Roberts.
A Different Opportunity
As part of FM Talent's Random Acts of Kindness 2026 Campaign, Anthony had already decided how he wanted to use his kindness gift.
There are often individuals near his neighborhood gas station who could use a meal or a cold drink, and that was his original plan.
When he arrived...
They weren't there.
His opportunity had disappeared.
Or so it seemed.
Plan B
Instead of driving away disappointed, Anthony shared the situation with his wife and her friend.
Together, they came up with another idea.
Why not help complete strangers by paying for some of their gas?
It was simple.
Unexpected.
And exactly the kind of kindness someone would never see coming.
Doubling the Surprise
As Anthony waited at the pump, he noticed the driver in front of him purchasing $10 worth of gas.
He quietly asked the attendant to make it $20 instead.
"I'll cover the extra $10."
One stranger unexpectedly drove away with twice as much fuel as planned.
Then Anthony looked behind him.
Why stop there?
He repeated the same act for the next customer.
Another stranger.
Another unexpected blessing.
Two people who arrived expecting only a few gallons of gas left with more than they anticipated—and a reminder that kindness still exists in the world.
Small Gestures. Lasting Impact.
Reflecting on the experience, Anthony shared something that beautifully captures the heart of the campaign:
"With so many people facing challenges these days, two complete strangers drove away with more gas than they expected and a reason to smile. Small gestures really do brighten people's days."
Those simple words remind us that kindness doesn't have to solve every problem.
Sometimes it simply needs to brighten someone's day.
Sometimes that's enough to restore hope.
The Best Plans Leave Room for Compassion
One of the most inspiring parts of Anthony's story is that he refused to let a change in circumstances stop him from helping someone else.
His original idea didn't work out.
But instead of postponing his Random Act of Kindness...

And in doing so, he ended up blessing two people instead of one.
